Join us as a Legal Counsel in the Corporate Banking & Structured Lending Legal team. Deliver the legal strategy and provide expert, accurate and cost-effective legal advice. Your role sits within our Commercial & Institutional business area, requiring understanding of associated legal issues.

Manage and coordinate the delivery of legal advice, supporting our Commercial & Institutional business. Work closely with stakeholders and legal colleagues to ensure timely, effective and efficient delivery of all issues, projects and initiatives, either directly or through a team.

Be recognised as an expert in your field, exposed to stakeholders across the bank and externally. Make legal advice readily understandable to non-lawyers, delivered within relevant timescales, while managing and minimising legal risks.

Drive continuous improvement in operating practices and processes, identifying efficiencies, improvements and opportunities to reduce costs. Manage legal costs through e-billing, auctions and other tools, fostering disciplined cost management.

Provide communication of internal and external legal advice, helping deliver transactions and projects to stakeholders in a commercial, user-friendly and efficient manner.

Requirements

  • New York qualified lawyer with experience providing legal and commercial advice on transactions and projects in-house or in a leading UK law firm
  • In-depth knowledge of general banking law and practice, and the financial services industry
  • In-depth knowledge of LSTA lending transactions and market as well as New York banking law and practice
  • Knowledge of commercial and private banking business activities and associated legal issues
  • Experience working with leading law firms and other professional advisers and consultants
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships across the bank
  • Ability to keep up to date with and share relevant legal and market developments

  • Manage legal costs through e-billing, auctions and other cost tools
