About this role

This role supports the Senior Financial Crime Lawyers and Global Head of AML and Sanctions Compliance. It involves advising, designing, and implementing effective controls and policies to ensure the firm complies with anti-money laundering laws, financial crime regulations, international sanctions, and professional conduct rules for new business intake processes.

The position assesses clients and their matters to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and advises the firm on financial crime and other risk issues. It handles all types of client due diligence and complex matter opening issues with minimal supervision, considering local legal requirements.

Reporting to Senior Financial Crime Lawyers, the role operates in a hybrid environment with flexibility to decide office days alongside the team. An allowance provides for a home workspace, plus kit to use desks at any office, allowing efficient client service and personal development.

Opportunities include assisting on ad hoc financial crime projects, developing AML awareness training, and advising on complex inter-office arrangements. The role contributes to regulatory audits and policy drafting, fostering expertise in global compliance changes.

Requirements

  • Qualified and admitted solicitor or lawyer, preferably with in-house experience or compliance/risk experience in a law firm or professional services environment
  • Experience in drafting a range of legal documents
  • Good knowledge of relevant compliance rules including anti-money laundering
  • Knowledge of UN/UK/US/EU sanctions
  • Knowledge of anti-bribery and corruption regulations
  • Understanding of confidentiality and other professional conduct rules
  • Ability to handle complex matter opening issues considering local legal requirements
  • Experience advising on financial crime risk issues

Responsibilities

  • Keep up to date with applicable AML, anti-bribery and corruption, and sanctions laws globally and advise on impacts to the firm
  • Advise on application of international financial sanctions and obtaining licenses
  • Assist with review and approval of all new matters and clients
  • Undertake and handle all types of client due diligence with minimal supervision
  • Assist with AML investigations, escalations to MLROs, and filing Suspicious Activity Reports
  • Provide concierge service to partners by liaising directly with clients on AML and sanctions issues
  • Draft, maintain, and implement AML and sanctions policies and procedures
  • Assist with regulatory AML and sanctions audits
