Looking for a role where you will have a meaningful contribution to Markel’s second line compliance? As Senior Compliance Officer – Advisory business partner, you will make a meaningful contribution to Markel’s second line compliance oversight. This role provides a great opportunity to develop and grow your career in an exciting and growing business as part of an established compliance team.
The role is part of the International Division Compliance function, overseen by the Chief Compliance Officer. The well-established team manages all of Markel’s insurance activities outside the U.S., with operations in multiple countries. You will report to the Director of Compliance for UK, London Markets and Canada Divisions.
Provide key support, compliance guidance and advice to business trading divisions of Markel’s international insurance operations. Oversee and advise first line on regulatory change implementation, remediation actions, and support business goals like growth projects and new products. Guide key functions on regulatory and Lloyd’s requirements, interacting with Risk team, Office of the Chief Underwriting Officer, and others.
Prepare reports for senior management, Boards and Committees, and support compliance risk assessments. Interact with regulators where necessary and keep up to date with regulation through trade body events. Ongoing development is actively encouraged, including relevant insurance compliance qualifications.

Requirements
- Relevant compliance experience in the insurance industry with strong SME knowledge of FCA and PRA rules
- Lloyd’s and London market experience essential; understanding of the Canadian regulatory landscape beneficial
- Strong licensing and understanding overseas regulatory capabilities
- Communicate effectively at all levels within the company with a high degree of professionalism
- Strong writing skills and a good grasp of technology to support and automate processes
- Passed or prepared to complete insurance compliance qualifications relevant to the role
- Previous exposure to senior stakeholder management beneficial
Responsibilities

- Support and guide key first line functions on regulatory and Lloyd’s requirements
- Prepare reports for senior management, Boards and Committees
- Support the compliance advisory team and involved with compliance risk assessments across the divisions
- Interact with the regulators where necessary
- Keep up to date with regulation – e.g. attend trade body events
