The EMEA Head of Financial Crime Compliance is a senior leadership role accountable for firm-wide and branch-level financial crime compliance. This position leads EMEA AML and sanctions efforts while implementing the Global AML program.

The role involves owning policies and procedures for countering financial crime risk across legal entities and branches in the region. Oversee key controls, quality assurance, surveillance technologies, and regulatory examinations. Provide forward-looking guidance on regulatory change, emerging risks, and business initiatives.

Report to the Global Head of Financial Crime Compliance while leading a regional team of FCC professionals. Serve as the primary EMEA regulatory contact for AML and Sanctions matters and act as FCA-approved SMF17 MLRO for multiple entities including Northern Trust Company London Branch. Engage in governance forums and regional financial crime risk assessments.

Build a high-performing FCC team through leadership, mentoring, and succession planning. Advise senior leaders on FCC risks and regulatory expectations while promoting a culture of accountability and ethical conduct. Embed FCC requirements across products, operations, and governance.

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in global AML, sanctions, and financial crime compliance with experience in large, complex financial institutions
  • Proven ability to foster a strong culture of financial crime risk management, accountability, and ethical conduct
  • Experience leading EMEA AML and sanctions efforts and implementing Global AML programs
  • Ability to advise senior leadership, engage regulators, and manage regulatory examinations and remediation
  • Expertise in identifying, assessing, and monitoring emerging AML and Sanctions risks
  • Skills in overseeing key controls, surveillance technologies, and quality assurance
  • Demonstrated leadership in building and developing high-performing FCC teams
  • Knowledge of UK regulator’s Conduct Rules and serving as SMF17 MLRO

Responsibilities

  • Own the firm’s policies and procedures for countering financial crime risk with local responsibility for legal entities inclusive of branches
  • Develop and execute the EMEA AML & Sanctions strategy in partnership with the Global Head of FCC
  • Lead and enhance a dynamic regional AML & Sanctions framework in response to regulatory change and client trends
  • Provide forward-looking guidance on regulatory change, emerging risks, and business initiatives
  • Oversee key controls, quality assurance, and surveillance technologies
  • Act as the primary EMEA regulatory contact for AML and Sanctions matters and lead regulatory examinations
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing regional FCC team with succession planning
  • Serve as the FCA-approved SMF17 MLRO for Northern Trust Company London Branch, Northern Trust Global Services SE UK Branch, Northern Trust Global Investments Limited, Northern Trust Investor Services Limited, and Northern Trust Securities LLP
